Infrastructure WA
2050 Commission
In February 2026, the Premier announced that the WA Government would be establishing the 2050 Commission, WA's first productivity commission.
The 2050 Commission's three core functions will be to:
- conduct inquiries and research on matters referred to it by the Premier or Treasurer while also being able to propose topics for self-initiated inquiries for the Premier's approval
- prepare Industry Development Action Plans to support the delivery of the government’s economic development priorities in specific industries
- continue to perform the Major Infrastructure Proposal Assessment function currently delivered by Infrastructure WA, but with the threshold for assessment eventually increasing from $100 million to $200 million.
What does this mean for Infrastructure WA?
Infrastructure WA will transition to become the 2050 Commission. IWAs legislation will be replaced by new legislation and some of its functions will be absorbed into the 2050 Commission. IWA will continue to undertake its legislated functions until the legislation is replaced.
