Targeted investment in hospitals to modernise facilities and address capacity gaps

Recommendation

79. Support refocusing of the health system from hospitals and acute care to community-based services by undertaking targeted investment to modernise hospitals and address capacity gaps, including:

  1. subject to Recommendation 77a, developing a roadmap for the planning and redevelopment of Royal Perth Hospital, considering any investment required to extend its life without adversely impacting health outcomes
  2. subject to Recommendation 77a, developing a roadmap for the planning of and future investment in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
  3. informed by outcomes of the Graylands Reconfiguration and Forensic Taskforce, prioritising investment to continue the services provided at Graylands Hospital and Selby Lodge through a new or redeveloped facility or facilities or other appropriate models of care, and to transition patients to suitable accommodation, where necessary
  4. informed by outcomes of the Graylands Reconfiguration and Forensic Taskforce, prioritising investment in forensic mental health services to ensure appropriate, secured facilities for people with a mental illness involved in the state’s criminal justice system.
